A Healthy Life Starts With A Healthy Home

EXPLORE

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HOME & HEALTH

We spend most of our time indoors, yet many homes contain harmful pollutants, environmental toxins, moisture issues, or building materials that can quietly affect our health. With toxins all around us, the answer isn't fear—it's creating a home environment that supports your body’s natural ability to heal and thrive. At Holistically Built, we understand the critical connection between the home environment and human health. We focus on creating homes that nurture well-being through thoughtful design, safe building materials, and a deep understanding of building science and building biology - because a healthy life begins with a healthy home.

LET'S DEFINE

WHAT IS A HEALTHY HOME?

Building Science

Building science is about understanding how a home truly works - from the way it performs to how it manages moisture, heat, and air movement. It's the foundation for building homes that are not only durable and energy-efficient, but also healthier for the occupants. When done right, building science helps prevent common issues like mold, structural damage, and temperature swings by ensuring the home is properly sealed, insulated, and ventilated.

Building Biology

Building biology explores how our homes influence our health and well-being, emphasizing harmony between the human body and the indoor environment. It considers factors often overlooked in conventional construction - such as indoor air quality, chemical off-gassing, electromagnetic fields, and natural light exposure. Where building science focuses on how a home performs, building biology explores how it supports human health and daily living.

Building Materials

Many building materials used today contain synthetic chemicals that can off-gas into the air you breathe for years after construction is complete. Poor material choices can lead to long-term exposure to VOCs and other harmful pollutants. The finishes, insulation, and paints used in a home all influence indoor air quality and occupant health. At Holistically Built, we carefully select safer building materials that contribute to cleaner air and a safer indoor environment.

MORE THAN JUST GREEN

GREEN BUILDING  HEALTHY LIVING

While green building focuses on reducing a home’s environmental impact—through energy efficiency, sustainable materials, and water conservation—a healthy home prioritizes the well-being of the people living inside. A green home might be energy-efficient, but that doesn’t always mean it’s free from harmful chemicals, poor air quality, or moisture issues. A healthy home goes beyond sustainability by addressing aspects such as indoor air quality, non-toxic materials, proper ventilation, and moisture control to create a safe, supportive environment for human health. The ideal home blends both approaches, creating a space that's efficient, durable, and healthy to live in.
